ShortPoint Generator: Update Multiple Pages from a Single Source

Create a design element, a combination of elements, a layout, a footer, or even an entire page in ShortPoint Generator and insert it into different site pages in just a few clicks instead of re-creating the Design Elements you've made from scratch. Update the design of your element in ShortPoint Generator and it will be automatically updated for all your pages.

This article will walk you through how to update multiple ShortPoint pages using only the power of ShortPoint Generator.

Note: Only Generated Elements created using ShortPoint Generator can be edited from a single source.

Before we begin

• To use ShortPoint Generator, make sure that you have ShortPoint installed. (Here are the installation guides for Office 365, SharePoint 2019, and SharePoint 2013/2016).
• If you are using SharePoint 2013, 2016, or have ShortPoint SPFx version 7, the interface will be slightly different but will have the same features.
• Make sure you have already created a ShortPoint element using ShortPoint Generator and added it to your SharePoint site.

Step-by-step Tutorial

Before proceeding with this tutorial, make sure that you have already created and added a Generated Element to your SharePoint site. Only then will you be able to edit the Element using ShortPoint Generator and see the changes reflect on your site. 

Step 1: Create a ShortPoint element using ShortPoint Generator and add it to your page

Create your custom element using ShortPoint Generator and add it to your pages using Page Builder.

Note: If you haven't accomplished this step yet, you can checkout the following articles: (a) Part 1: Creating Generated Content and (b) Part 2: Using Generated Content on Pages.

For the purpose of this guide, we have created and added this ShortPoint element to our pages.

Step 2: Edit your element

Once you have added your custom Shortpoint element to different pages, you can edit it using ShortPoint Generator.

To edit, open Generator.

From the list of elements, find the name of your custom element and click Edit.

You can now start editing. Simply click the gear icon beside the web part you want to edit. 

For the purpose of this guide, we will change the images on our slideshow.

Once you are done with your edits, click Update.

Then, click Save changes.

Step 3: Go back to your page

Now that you've applied your changes, go back to the pages where you have added your custom ShortPoint element and click Refresh / Reload. 

Note: The same editing process applies to custom footers. All the changes you've made using ShortPoint Generator will be applied to all the sites you have added your custom footer to.
