Known Limitation: You Cannot Add Multiple TOC Design Elements into the Same Page

Issue

You want to add multiple TOC (TOC Content and TOC Navigation) Design Elements on the same page but the TOC Navigation displays duplicate or shows the wrong content. This issue also occurs even if you add the TOC Design Element on separate ShortPoint web parts. In our example below, you will notice that the TOC in ShortPoint web part 1 is correct:

ShortPoint web part 1

However, in ShortPoint web part 2, the TOC is a duplicate of the TOC in ShortPoint web part 1:

ShortPoint web part 2

NOTEThis happens on both Live Mode (version 8.0+) and pre-Live Mode (version 7.8 and below).

Reason

The TOC Design Element was implemented according to the UX best practice of having only one table of contents per page. While you can still insert multiple TOC (Content) Design Elements, the TOC (Navigation) Design Element does not have the option to select what content to target, so the results will be displayed incorrectly.

Resolution

Please use only one TOC and TOC Navigation Design Elements per page to avoid the issues mentioned above.
