- What if ShortPoint isn't showing up on modern pages in a subsite after reinstallation?
Reason
This often happens because hidden files from previous installations, or remnants from a SharePoint migration, interfere with the new setup. This guide provides a clean reinstallation process to resolve these issues and ensure a smooth ShortPoint installation.
Solution
This issue can be resolved by performing a full or clean reinstallation of ShortPoint. Kindly refer to the guide below for detailed steps
Important Check Before a Full Reinstallation
First, let's do a quick check that might save you from a full reinstallation.
Please go to the following link for your site:
<Your Site URL Here>/_Lists/ShortPoint%20-%20User%20Defined%20ShortPoints
Where:
Your Site URL Here needs to be updated with your SharePoint tenant.
For example:
https://yourtenant.sharepoint.com/_Lists/ShortPoint%20-%20User%20Defined%20ShortPoints
Once you're on that page, open the List Settings (you'll usually find this in the settings menu at the top right). Please verify if these three columns are present:
- Title
- ShortPointType
- ShortPointCode
If any of these columns are missing, please add them. After adding the missing columns, try to install ShortPoint again.
If you still see the "Oops! Failed to Install" message, then please proceed with the detailed reinstallation steps below.
What to Know Before You Start
Before we begin the full reinstallation, it's very important to understand what will happen:
Your ShortPoint Dashboard settings will be reset. This includes:
- All your generators.
- Your connections.
- Your integration settings.
Action Needed: We strongly recommend you export your Theme Builder settings before proceeding to take a backup of your Theme. Here is how to Export and Import Customization from your Theme Builder. Good news: Any ShortPoint elements you've already created on your site pages will not be affected by this reinstallation. Your existing Design Element will remain.
Note: You may also use SharePoint Designer when following the instructions below.
Step 1. Delete ShortPoint-Related Lists
You'll need to visit specific URLs for your site to delete certain lists. For each link:
- Go to the URL.
- Open List Settings (usually found in the settings menu at the top right).
- Click on Delete List.
Here are the list URLs you'll need to visit and delete (remember to replace <Your Site URL Here> with your actual site SharePoint tenant):
<Your Site URL Here>/__sp/
<Your Site URL Here>/Lists/ShortPoint%20-%20Branding%20Settings
<Your Site URL Here>/Lists/ShortPoint%20-%20Connections
<Your Site URL Here>/Lists/ShortPoint%20-%20User%20Defined%20ShortPoints
<Your Site URL Here>/ShortPointAssets
For example: If your site is https://m365x996001.sharepoint.com/sites/MyCompany/, then the URL for one of the lists would look like:
https://m365x996001.sharepoint.com/sites/MyCompany/Lists/ShortPoint%20-%20Branding%20Settings
IMPORTANT: In some situations, simply removing these lists might not be enough. This is especially true if you are migrating from an older SharePoint version to a new one. During migration, some hidden libraries might have been created, which can cause an error when installing ShortPoint in your new environment. If you have access to SharePoint Designer, you might need to check for additional libraries like__sp
or__sp_dashboard
and remove them there as well.
HELPFUL TIP: If your site was migrated from SharePoint 2016 or 2013, old ShortPoint features might have come along. Please check Site settings > Site Features and Site Collection Features and deactivate any ShortPoint-related features you find. You might also find an additional list called ShortPoint MetaData
that should be removed.
Step 2. Delete Existing Site Content Types
From your site's Site Settings,
click on Site Content Types:
Please delete the following content types:
- ShortPoint Branding Settings
- ShortPoint Connections
- ShortPoint User Defined ShortPoints
Step 3. Delete Existing Site Columns
From your site's Site Settings, click on Site Columns.
Please delete the following columns:
SettingValue
ConnectionData
ShortPointCode
ShortPointType
Click on each Custom Column, and scroll down to find the Delete button.
Step 4. Remove the ShortPoint App (SPFx)
Navigate to Site Contents on your SharePoint site. You will find the ShortPoint SPFx app listed there. Please remove it.
NOTE: This action might take you to the Classic SharePoint Experience. That's normal; just proceed to remove the app from there.
Step 5. Clear the Recycle Bin
After deleting the lists and the app, these items will go into your site's Recycle Bin. From Site Contents, click on Recycle Bin (usually located at the top right).
Select all the ShortPoint-related items you previously deleted.
Click Delete to permanently remove them from this Recycle Bin.
Step 6. Clear the Admin Recycle Bin
There's a Second-stage Recycle Bin that needs to be cleared as well. To get there, first go to your regular Recycle Bin (as in Step 5).
Look at your browser's address bar. You'll see something like:
https://yourcompany.sharepoint.com/sites/yoursite/_layouts/15/RecycleBin.aspx?view=5
To access the Admin Recycle Bin, simply add Admin before RecycleBin in the address bar, so it looks like this:
https://yourcompany.sharepoint.com/sites/yoursite/_layouts/15/AdminRecycleBin.aspx?view=5
Press Enter to go to this new URL.
Once there, click on "Go to Second Stage Recycle Bin" and then delete the ShortPoint-related items from there too.
Note: The account you are logged in with must have access to this Admin Recycle Bin. If you can't access it, you might need to ask your SharePoint administrator for assistance or temporary access.

Step 7. Reinstall the ShortPoint App
Now that your site is clean, you can proceed with a fresh installation!
Go to Site Contents and click Add an app.
Find ShortPoint in the list and install it.
What if ShortPoint isn't showing up on modern pages in a subsite after reinstallation?
If you're still having trouble seeing ShortPoint on your modern subsite pages, you might need to clear an older version of the app from your App Catalog:
Go to SharePoint Admin Center → More Features → Apps.
Make sure to remove any old ShortPoint .sppkg file that might be present in the App Catalog.
From the App Catalog, go to Settings → Site Contents.
Ensure you remove any old ShortPoint app that might still be listed there.
Go back to your subsite and try to add ShortPoint again.
We hope these steps resolve your "Oops! Failed to Install" issue. If you continue to experience problems, please don't hesitate to contact ShortPoint support for further assistance!
